Why All Hindus Are Celebrating " Makar Sankranti ", " Kite Festival" of India

Makar Sankranti is a significant Hindu festival celebrated across India with various regional names and customs. It marks an important transition in the Hindu calendar and has deep cultural and spiritual significance. Here's why Hindus celebrate Makar Sankranti:

1. Transition of the Sun (Solar Significance)

Makar Sankranti marks the Sun's transition into the zodiac sign of Capricorn (Makar).

It is a time of thanksgiving to the Sun God (Surya) for a bountiful harvest.

Farmers rejoice as this period brings prosperity and abundance.

3. Spiritual Importance

The festival is linked to purification and renewal. Taking a holy dip in rivers like the Ganga, Yamuna, or Godavari is believed to wash away sins and bring spiritual blessings.

Charity and giving are key aspects of the festival. People donate food, clothes, and other essentials to the needy, promoting the virtue of selflessness.

4. Mythological Significance

Makar Sankranti is associated with various Hindu legends:

It is believed that on this day, Lord Surya visits his son Shani (Saturn), symbolizing reconciliation and familial harmony.

The day marks the victory of Lord Vishnu, who ended the terror of the demon Sankarasur and buried him under the Mandara Parvat.

It is also considered the day when Bhishma Pitamah from the Mahabharata chose to leave his mortal body, making it an auspicious time to attain liberation (moksha).
